Sensory Profiles

Parents of neurodivergent children are often told about their children’s sensory preferences, or sensory processing skills. Parents may even be told to investigate their own sensory profiles - but few parents have been given the tools or strategies to do so. At Hand-in-Hand Neurodiverse Care, we know how important it is to know how you - the caregiver - experience the world. So often we are dysregulated by our children and our environments; it’s not their fault, and it’s not your fault. When you understand how your senses help you experience the world, you have the capacity to give yourself some grace. At Hand-in-Hand, we support parents and caregivers through learning about their own personal Sensory Profiles. Check out the links below to learn more!

When we are in a "just right" state, we feel calm and alert. Dysregulation occurs when our "sensory cup" is either too empty (seeking more input) or overflowing (feeling overwhelmed).
