Do You Want to Play With Me!?

A lot of folks have a misconception that neurodivergent children prefer to play alone. While some children prefer to play with toys or activities that follow their specific interests, most children still crave connection. They just might not have the language or social skills yet to know how to ask a peer to play with them and that’s ok! That’s where we as the neuro-affirming caregivers come in! It is our job to create inclusive environments that give neurodivergent AND non-neurodivergent children the tools and skills to grow together.

A lot of professionals may tell others to use visuals specifically with the neurodivergent child to help them communicate. But we’re missing out on teaching ALL the children how to include their neurodivergent peers in their play. Social stories and visuals can be used with all children to shape their social and communication skills. Check out the links below for a couple of options you might like for your kiddos:
